P&L Statement Template - Instructions

What is included in this template?

  • Revenue Section: Total sales from all channels
  • COGS Section: Cost of inventory sold (calculated from expense categories)
  • Gross Profit: Revenue minus COGS
  • Operating Expenses: Fees, marketing, rent, utilities, etc.
  • Net Profit: Bottom line profitability

How to use this template:

  1. Enter total monthly revenue for each channel (Amazon, Shopify, Etsy, etc.)
  2. Log all product costs and related COGS expenses
  3. Enter operating expenses in their respective categories
  4. Formulas automatically calculate totals and net profit
  5. Compare month-over-month to track trends

Key metrics to monitor:

  • Gross Profit Margin: Should be 40-60%+ for healthy business
  • Net Profit Margin: Should be 10-20%+ for acceptable profitability
  • Expense Ratio: Keep operating expenses under 30% of revenue

Cash Flow Template - Instructions

Why is cash flow important?

You can be profitable on paper but run out of cash. This template shows when cash actually comes in and goes out, helping you avoid cash crises.

Three sections of cash flow:

  1. Operating Activities: Cash from selling products (sales minus payments to vendors)
  2. Investing Activities: Equipment purchases, asset sales
  3. Financing Activities: Loans, equity investments, personal contributions

How to fill it out:

  • Beginning cash balance (from previous period)
  • Cash from sales this period
  • Cash paid for expenses and inventory
  • Any financing or investment cash
  • Ending cash balance

COGS Template - Instructions

What should be included in COGS?

  • Product cost (wholesale or manufacturing price)
  • Shipping to your warehouse
  • Packaging per unit (boxes, tape, labels)
  • Quality control and return processing
  • Direct labor (if applicable)

What should NOT be included?

  • Marketplace fees (referral, FBA, etc.)
  • Marketing and advertising
  • Rent and utilities
  • Office supplies
  • Salaries (unless directly making product)
